How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?
Choose a start date and an end date in the tool above and the total appears straight away. By default the end date isn’t counted, which is how most deadlines and age calculations work. Tick Include the end date if you want both days counted, for example for a hotel stay or a leave application.
Should I include the end date?
From Monday to Friday is 4 days if you count the gaps between days, and 5 days if you count every day you were present. Deadlines, interest and age use the first method. Leave days, event days and attendance use the second. The checkbox switches between the two.
Inclusive days = End date − Start date + 1
Working days
Working days count Monday to Friday only. Public holidays vary by country and year, so subtract them yourself if your count needs to exclude them.

Frequently asked questions
How many days are left in the year?
Keep today as the start date and set the end date to 31 December. The tool shows the days remaining.
Does this count leap years?
Yes. The calculation uses real calendar dates, so 29 February is counted when it exists.
How do I count only working days?
Read the Working days box, which counts Monday to Friday. Subtract public holidays yourself.
Why is the inclusive count one day more?
Including the end date counts both the first and the last day, so the result is always one higher.
Can I count backwards?
Yes. If the end date is earlier than the start date, the tool counts the gap and notes it.
